Eric Rubak says the Blue Chip 225 Recruiting Showcase camp was instrumental in shaping both his skill development and path to a college commitment.

Eric Rybak said the Blue Chip 225 Showcase Camp was instrumental in his development as a Division I commit

Eric Rybak said the Blue Chip 225 Showcase Camp was instrumental in his development as a Division I commit

“I was coached by some of the best college coaches out there,” said the Santa Margarita Catholic (CA) 2016 defenseman who this spring committed to Division I Bellarmine. “These coaches allowed me to become better through their constructive instruction and allowed me to see me what a college level coaching staff on the sideline is like.

“What really made the coaches so helpful was that they cared. After the camp I emailed the coaches with questions about how I could improve my game and about the process of being recruited. This helped me improve my game and learn how to get recruited.”

The schedule for 2016 for Ted Spencer’s Blue Chip 225 Recruiting Showcases at UMass Amherst has been released (see list and signup information below) for boys from 2017 to 2020 on the campus of the University of Massachusetts. The camps offer the best in college recruiting and skill training and exposure through video and live streaming.

Rubak also was named an All-Star at his Blue Chip camp and selected to complete for the Blue Chip 225 National Club Team.

“The things that I liked about the camp was that I was coached by top level D1/D2/D3 level coaches,” said Rubak. “It was VERY organized, and the amount of emails I got from college coaches when I got home the next day was amazing.

“Making the All-Star game allowed me to show my self to EVERY coach out there! The sideline was filled from left to right with coaches from every state, division, and league.”

Rubak also answered these questions:

What made the BlueChip 225 different from other recruiting events you have been to?
Rubak:
“What made this camp different from other camps that I had attended was that everyone that went there was very talented, I got GREAT coaching from the college coaches that coached my team, and it helped me learn a little bit more about the recruiting process through the GREAT recruiting seminar we had during the camp that was led by top level coaches.”

Why would you recommend the camps to other players?
Rubak:
“I would recommend the camps to players because they are there for the sole purpose of learning about the recruiting process and getting as much exsposure as possible in front of as many college coaches as possible! I would also reccommend the camps because they are just fun and exciting to be at from start to finish.”

How has being on the 225 travel team helped you improve your game?
Rubak:
“Being selected to be on the Bluechip 225 travel team has allowed me to be yet again be coached by the best. Coach Ted Spencer is one of the best coaches out there and only wants the best for you and your game. Being on the team has allowed me to play with some of the best players out there and play against the best competition. Also the team has allowed me to have a great relationship with Coach Ted Spencer! He would always help me with sending emails to colleges and also calling different schools on my behalf! With him I would not be committed to my dream school.

“If you want to play in college and improve your game than this camp is THE camp to go to.”

Chanhassen (MN) 2016 defenseman Quinn Scallon said playing for the HEADstrong Foundation made winning the Face-Off Against Blood Cancer tourney championship in Hopkins (MN) that much more special.

“I do know the HEADstrong Foundation i about raising money for blood cancer and supporting families while spreading awareness on the condition,” said Scallon, whose squad went 6-0 and defeated host Blake School, 7-5, for the crown. “Winning this is a good feeling because we won with a great group of guys but also it’s going toward such a great cause.

‘It’s comforting to know we are competing at the highest level for something greater than just the love of the game. It’s for the whole lacrosse community and for the common cause.”

Scallon was a mainstay on defense for the Storm, who went 6-0 and outscored their foes, 63-9.

“I think we were successful because we really jelled as a team and even though this is an off-season tournament where people like to work on their own craft, we stress the team aspect,” said Scallon, who said he is close to choosing a college. “I think we were able to use each person’s individual skills but in a structured way. We used a lot of formations and jelled together.

“Communication was strong. Everyone was working hard, but even more than that people wanted to win and we were having a good time.”

Also competing in the two-day event from Minnesota were the Polar Bears, Champlin Park, Lakeville South, East Ridge, Minnetonka and Prior Lake.

Scallon said his team, which went 11-4 in 2015, should contend this year for state honors.

“Our younger players have a lot of experience after playing a few years at the varsity level and in combination with our seniors we are ready to excel,” he said. “Our upperclassmen, over the years, have learned what works and what doesn’t.

“We are going into this year with a great coaching staff and skill level. I believe we will be a state contender.”

From Press Release

The National Lacrosse Federation has announced that the NLF Futures Showcase will take place January 16-18, 2016 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The showcase will bring elite lacrosse players from the U.S. and Canada in the classes of 2019, 2020 and 2021 to train with coaches from the top lacrosse clubs, college programs and professional ranks.NLF Futures

Colleges in attendance are scheduled to include Duke, Johns Hopkins, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Syracuse, Providence, Michigan, Penn State, Cornell, Princeton, Boston University, Brown, Hofstra, Loyola and Penn.

Players will also be coached by pros that include Kyle Hartzell, Mike Chanenchuk, Scott Ratliff, Jordan Wolf, John Galloway, Adam Ghitelman and Kip Turner. Further instruction will be provided by Matt Schomburg (Fogo Lax), Liam Banks (LB3 Lacrosse), Keith Wilford (Wilford Movement), Andy Towers (Former Pro/Ivy League Coach), Jamie Hanford (Eclipse) and Ric Beardsley (Upstate Lacrosse Club) as well as the coaching staffs from the NLF’s founding six members: Baltimore Crabs, Big 4 HHH, Laxachusetts, Leading Edge, Long Island Express and Ninety-One Lacrosse.

The classes of 2020 and 2021 will be invite-only (120 spots each) with the Class of 2019 being an open registration process for the best 200 players. At the NLF Futures event in January, the National Lacrosse Federation staff will select the best 120 players in the Class of 2019 to advance to play at a showcase at Boys’ Latin School (Md.) on June 28-30, 2016.

“We couldn’t be more excited to introduce this landmark event to the lacrosse community,” said NLF Director Sean Morris. “Getting the best high school lacrosse players in the world together in Florida in January to train at IMG Academy’s facilities with the game’s best instructors brings together all the best parts of our sport. This will be the No. 1 training event in the country for players in the Classes of 2019, 2020 and 2021.”

Final rosters will be announced in December for the inaugural NLF Futures at IMG event, so stay tuned to NationalLacrosseFederation.com for more information.

“IMG is extremely excited to bring such elite lacrosse to the world’s best sports venue,” said IMG Lacrosse Director Bill Schatz. “The NLF has a proven track record of bringing in the nation’s top talent to their events and we can’t wait to make NLF Futures the best to date.”

From Press Release

NXTsports’ Showcase Lacrosse is excited to release preliminary player lists for the 2015 Nike Boys Philly Showcase and Nike Philly Freshman Showcase taking place on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Episcopal Academy and United Sports, respectively.Philly shoiwcase lists

The individual session of the Nike Boys Philly Showcase features more than 500 players in the 2017 and 2018 graduation classes. The players hail from 32 different states, as well as from one Canadian province. Meanwhile, the Nike Philly Freshman Showcase, the nation’s most competitive event for players in the class of 2019, features more than 250 players from 24 states and one Canadian province.

In a testament to the talent on display at the Boys Philly Showcase, more than 250 college programs attended the Philly Showcase event, including 66 of 69 NCAA Division I programs. Close to 150 coaches have pre-registered and NXT expects to set another college coach attendance record.

“Today’s release of preliminary registered player lists for the 2015 Nike Boys Philly Showcase and Nike Philly Freshman Showcase is the result of our year-round effort to identify top talent from all corners of the country,” Director of Showcase Lacrosse Brett Manney said. “As is the case every year, these events feature some of the most gifted groups of high school players ever assembled.”

Both events are now full, though players are still welcome to register for the wait list. The events routinely accept up to 25 players off the wait list due to late withdrawals.

All participants compete in three games over the course of the morning. Each event features a King of the X face-off competition and a Fab 40 All-Star Game for players in each respective grad year.
